New
hangout in northwest section
Carpe Diem opens in Hoboken
8/24/2006
by Hilary Morris -
Hudson Current
"Soon to become one of Hoboken's hidden gems is
Carpe Diem, a new public house that held their soft-opening in
July. Located on the quiet corner of 14th and Grand
streets, this new bar & grill is fast becoming a favorite
hangout for new and old residents of uptown Hoboken.
Formerly an Italian restaurant, new ownership has transformed
the popular eatery into a neighborhood pub.
Understated elegance
A tasteful, understated décor greets customers as they walk
through the door, with earth tones that are echoed on the
hard-wood floors, café au lait colored walls, and mahogany
table-tops. The stunning mahogany bar that spans the front room
fits from floor to ceiling. The large windows and light valances
along the walls give the space a comfortable, subdued glow in
the evening.
Adjacent to the bar is a casual dining room with a working
fireplace. Venture up the curved back stairs and you'll find
more a private bar with dartboards and more of the same cozy
atmosphere. The upstairs area is almost always accessible to
patrons, but can be reserved for private parties."
